Photo Album & Report - Atlantic Tour
Opening Night & Conference Atlantic Tour Knappogue Castle Knappogue (More)
| Ennis is on the west coast of Ireland.
The Atlantic tour travelled along the route of the old West Clare railway, from Ennis to Ennistymon, then on into Lahinch, with its famous golf courses and beach. Northwards to the Cliffs of Moher. The tower at the top had a ghoulish history. The tenancy agreement of local tenant farmers specified that the landlord, a Mr O Brien, would bed the bride of each farmers wife on the wedding night. The tower was his place designated for that nocturnal activity. Onwards through Liscannor, birthplace of John Holland, inventor and first builder of the submarine On through Lisdoonvarna, where the annual 6-week matchmaking festival is held, and then back through Ennis, past Quin Abbey and on to Knappogue Castle. |
