Opening Night & Conference Atlantic Tour Knappogue Castle Knappogue (More)
| At Knappogue, there was a medieval
banquet. There was music, song and story, food and drink in an
authentic medieval setting, with the staff of the castle in traditional
dress.
The medieval drink was mead, a concoction of applewine and honey, served in stoneware goblets. There were ewers of wine. Much of the traditional music was played upon the harp and the fiddle. The Earl and his Lady (aka Alois & Suzanne Kroiss) presided over the meal from their high thrones. The pageant told the story of Ireland's legends, myths and history. The tragedy of the Children of Lir who were turned into swans was recounted. Fionn Mac Cumhail, Irelands great warrior got his wisdom and strength from a salmon. And there were tales of persecution, famine and tragedy. But above all, there was humour, colour, music and song.
