Opening Night & Conference   Atlantic Tour   Knappogue Castle   Knappogue (More)

The Conference was opened by Tim O Neill, Retail Banking Director, Bank of Ireland.  Tim welcomed all 68 delegates and 19 partners from 18 countries to this little corner of Ireland.

Ennis is where the traditional Irish economy meets the information age.  The economy was founded on agriculture, but is now the Europe's biggest exporter of computer software, hardware, Coke and Pepsi essences, and Viagra. The Irish economy was now operating on a reduced rate of growth.  At 6%, this was a growth rate that most finance ministers would die for.

The Irish banking system is in a healthy state, with the major banks having expanded substantially overseas.

After the formalities, the delegates were treated to an exhibition of traditional Irish dancing, music, and singing from the Gráinne 'O Rourke school of dancing.

Next morning, Monday 14th, the first item on the agenda was a presentation from Michael Byrne, CEO, Ennis Information Age Town on the success of the information age project.
